8/12 - PR Uncovered! - I learned this at Techie Youth!
Today I wrapped up Providing Services by exploring the Public Relations and Press subtopic. I learned that PR is about thoughtfully managing the spread of information for organizations or individuals. Being in PR necessitates similar skills that online writing and marketing use since you are essentially advertising for groups or persons. Press releases are sent to official sources like journals to make statements or announcements. And, press releases are trustworthy sources of brandworthy information since the information comes from the source. Techie Youth shared on their website helpful articles on how to write press releases and how to publish them. We should especially cover the 5 W’s - who, what, when, where, and why!
8/11/22 - Going Back To The Basics! - I learned this at Techie Youth Today!
Today I received a voicemail that suggested that I complete my prerequisites for Techie Youth. I initially thought I had already completed them already but I found that I did not explore a few links here and there and wanted to rewatch some videos. Here are the things I learned so far while wrapping up my prerequisites: remote work is a thing of the NOW and we should take advantage of it! It gives us independence and allows us to choose our schedule and work environment. I can travel frequently and just have more time to do things that are important to me. But, I also need discipline as it is easy to fall behind or slack or become unproductive. I also learned the importance of networking as it’s not what you know but who you know. Of course, education is crucial but having people connect the dots as you go is also important.
8/10/22 - Researching for money! - I learned this at Techie Youth Today!
Today I decided to continue exploring the Providing Services portion of Techie Youth, specifically the Research and Feedback subtopic. I am interested in pursuing STEM-related classes and majors/minors in college so I was excited to see that I could get paid for conducting research - something that I enjoy doing. Even with just starting out, I can earn $10 an hour! And, I can even earn $50-80/hour given that I show consistency and reliability in my work and participation. After looking at some of the linked articles, I signed up for User Interviews, Respondent, Rare Patient Voice, and Survey Junkie. I am so grateful to have learned about th
August 9 - Providing Services to Make BANK - I learned this at Techie Youth Today!
I chose to learn from the Providing Services, Exchanging Your Skilled-Time For Money because I love learning new skills. Just like the founder of Techie Youth said in the first few videos at the beginning of the program, time is valuable and I think the best way to use it is to learn more skills on things that interest or benefit you. I learned that there are some prerequisites I need to complete before being able to do the majority of the jobs. From what I remember, some of the skills consisted of having phone service, a quiet workspace, internet, computer skills, and more. However, these are basics I can find usually in my home, school, or a library. I looked specifically into online tutoring today! I am a good student and always tutor my siblings at home for free. So I thought it would be beneficial to try to earn money while doing it at home. Tutoring pays wells, from 10-40 dollars an hour, on a wide variety of subjects. Usually, though, to tutor someone for money I would need to spend around 3 weeks to earn a certificate to be able to teach. I plan on using tutors.com, provided by Techie Youth, to start my journey.
LAST WEEK REPSONSES
*** I am so so sorry I didn’t upload my responses for last week! I write all my responses in a google doc to be able to proofread it and reflect and submit them before the week is over but I just left them sitting in my google doc. Hopefully I can still get paid for my work!
August 5 - Beware of Scams! - I learned this at Techie Youth Today!
After looking at the entire unit of Earing Immediate Income, the last thing I had to do was put in some reinforcement and get some metaphorical protection gear - skills to be aware of scams! I learned that if something sounds too easy to be true, it is usually a scam. However, with the resources that Techie Youth gave me, I trust that their quick ways to earn money by taking surveys and listening to music are legit. Some of the big scam signs are if you have to pay from the get-go to be a member of a group. This is usually a scam because they will usually just take your money and run. Another sign of a scam is when the person is pressuring you to do or buy something within a short period of time, claiming it as an emergency. This makes you freak out and make rash decisions to lose your money or information. I also learned to never give volunteer information to scammers because whatever it may be, it can be used against you.
August 4 - Jam out and earn some Jam! - I learned this at Techie Youth Today!
On day 4 of exploring the Earning Immediate Income section in Techie Youth, I learned about making money by reviewing music! I was so excited to see this topic today because I love how music can enhance a moment or uplift you in any sort of circumstance. I learned that by listening to music (and it can even just be half of the song!), I can earn money as long as I submit my detailed opinion on it. By watching Big Mark’s video I learned this: I can earn 50-250 dollars! And it can be a consistent daily income. I first created a paypal account in order to get paid. I also then have to register on the website. I get paid every 15 minutes I listen to music and the points are added to my paypal account as cash! I personally like using the easy listening option in order to multitask with my things to do throughout the day. And all I do is click the pay button! Both the company and myself make money through the advertisements. Big Mark also introduced me to the Cash4mintues.com website to earn money just for using my phone! I can also make money by rating different artists! There are essentially tons of different ways to enjoy the process of making money.
August 3 - One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure! - I learned this at Techie Youth Today!
On day 3 of exploring the Earning Immediate Income section in Techie Youth, I looked into the “Selling items that you may already have” section. This was because, I have lots of siblings and so our place is crowded with things we’ve grown out of, never used, and don’t know what to do with. At one point, my family tried to sell shows on ebay but we didn’t do proper research and so we got scammed out of some money. On our first time! However, I was determined today to revisit the topic to gain more skills. Some cool things I learned about today: 1. Boxcycle is a place where you can sell reused boxes! I just have to provide the description of it, but this is a great website especially because we order so many things online and the boxes clutter the space. Book Scouter was an especially good find as a website. With many siblings we have so many old story books and hand-me-downs, and new books that we just don’t use. Our local library doesn’t take donations so we will definitely be using the website to sell books and hopefully benefit others! The same case was for eCampus and sellbackyoubook.com! I also appreciated learning about all the different trade in programs in order to earn a little extra money.
August 2 - Potential to Become a Mock Juror?!? - I learned this at Techie Youth Today!
Today is day 2 of completing the Earning Immediate Income section in Techie Youth. Today I explored the Mock Juror category. A mock juror is someone who helps others in legal cases by giving their opinions on them, as well as looking the cases over. The job would be you giving your opinion on how you would rule. This interested me because on Tiktok, sometimes because give morality tests or challenges by presenting case studies. Then, everyone in the comments says what they think is right. It is surprising to me that I can lead this hobby into a means to earn money, and that there is no real experience necessary! And this side hustle would give me time to put attention and detail into it because cases are not too frequent. Websites like Online Verdict gave me an opportunity to learn more as well as give me opportunities to take surveys and earn more money. Ejury is also another website for online trial experience that I also checked out.
August 1 - Doubling Down on Earning Immediate income - I learned this at Techie Youth Today!
This week I am planning to stay focused on one unit until I completed it. And this week I chose earning immediate income. The reason is because from watching the past techie youth time management videos, I learned that time has so much value. I figured if I waste my time I may as well earn money as well. Today I focused on the Translation section of the topic. This is because in my household my parents and I speak Bengali, though outside of the house we speak english. My mom always watches the summaries of English movies in Bengali, or watches English movies that are dubbed in Bangla. And the videos surprisingly have millions of views! So, I used Techie Youth’s resources to learn how to make translated subtitles to videos. I was looking at ProZ and have also started to look on Youtube to see people’s opinion’s and thoughts about working in this sort of field.
7/27 - Virtual Assistant = Virtually Paid! - I learned this at Techie Youth!
I am starting to understand all the resources Techie Youth is providing. In the beginning of the program I focused on Stocks, Cryptocurrency, REITS, and more. And while that information was daunting but extremely eye-opening, I am learning there are so many unique avenues to make money! And it varies by how much time and effort you would like to put in. Today, among other things, I explored the possibility of being a virtual assistant. As a VA, I would need a basic computer skill and savvy in order to complete day to day administrative duties. It includes scheduling meetings, responding to calls and emails, booking travel, and more. Honestly, as a first gen kid helping my parents do a lot of things like this, I’m basically an expert! I look forward to putting my skills to work!
7/26 - Writing My Way into Wealth! - I learned this at Techie Youth!
I love to write poems, short stories, and enter contests just to see how I stack up against other writers. I also love to read, go to the library, and use resources available to me. That’s why today I decided to explore the Writing unit in Techie Youth. I learned that with my writing hobby, I can make a career out of it. And, I don’t need a professional degree to do so. I learned that I can create a portfolio out of some of my writing samples that fit the job needs. I also think I will pursue earning an income from writing because I learned that what makes someone successful is having accountability and reliability. I am great at meeting deadlines, communicating, and checking my work to make sure my ideas and grammar are good to go. I am interested in copywriting, guest blogging, ghost writing, and even data entry for when I have a creative block and want to earn some money.
7/25 - Earning money while Procrastinating?!? - I learned this at Techie Youth!
I have been writing my responses everyday in a google doc, and since I have been trying many different topics to find my interest, posting it slipped my mind. Regardless, today I learned about Earning Immediate Income. I am going to a good college next year and sometimes I waste time procrastinating, even though I am trying to limit that. As a result, I learned some skills from Techie Youth on how to earn money when you are in an unproductive slump. One of the many ways was getting paid to take surveys, search the internet, play online games, etc. Using advice from Techie Youth, I downloaded the browser extension Swagbucks because it is reliable and well known. I hope to make little bits of money here and there. I am so excited to also start using E-rewards, usertesting, Harvard Business School Behavioural Laboratory (which even has a $10 flat payment in addition to $5 per 30 minute!), and more to make my unproductive moments even a little productive!
Commodities continued - 7/22
I learned an interesting fact from the Forbes article about commodities: “Commodities trading is properly the birth of modern investing—the ceiling of the New York Stock Exchange is adorned with gold tobacco leaves in homage to the commodity trading that gave birth to the institution.” It was interesting to know that commodities were the basis of the financial world at one point. But anyways the main thing I learned is different ways to trade commodities. One way is through futures: buying and selling contracts on a future exchange. I can do this by setting up a specialty brokerage account. I can also do a physical commodity purchase: individual investors can take possession of different types of precious metals. You could also buy the stock of the company involved with the commodity.
Commodities - 7/21
Today I learned about commodities. They are essentially raw materials that have a given value to them which can change. They are usually the materials used to make a final product and commodities can also be cell phone minutes and bandwidth. Commodity indexes track the prices and returns of amounts of a commodity. People can exchange them on mutual funds or efts. I never heard of commodities so it is interesting to know that stocks and that entire world also involves real products and not just graphs and numbers on screens. I forgot to upload my response for yesterday so this is it.
7/20 Options- I learned this at Techie Youth today!
Today I continued to learn about options. Today I move further than just basic definitions but also learned about how to apply my skills. I can buy options on robinhood and I really enjoyed the video by Black Girl Stocks specifically. I liked how she broke everything down, talked about her own mistake of not checking the expiry and buying by accident. She was learning along with us and helped buying options seem tangible.
7/19 Stocks vs Options - I learned this at Techie Youth today!
I am happy to continue learning new concepts. I forgot to submit my response yesterday, but concept that stood out to me was stocks vs options. Trading stocks is similar to owning shares of a company and you can be about making a quick profit or going long term. However, options give you the interesting ability to buy the option to sell or buy a stock in the future for a fixed price, called the premium. The videos gave examples where you can save money, and they used a house analogy.
I am happy to continue learning about different types of trading as they all use similar charts. This make it easy for me to understand the connections between stocks, crypto, and everything in between. A highlight of today was that in today's lesson, I saw a video of a complete beginner taking a stab at Forex day trading and it inspired to to get over my nervousness and do more research to maybe try it in the future. However, another video I saw in the lesson reminded me that there is no such thing as easy money and that I should spend at least 3 hears a day if I want this to be profitable.
I am happy that Techie Youth has familiarized with me terms common in the cryptocurrency world. It allows me to start to think critically about the existing system and where blockchains and cryptocurrency are going. For example, after reading about what Proof-o-Work and Proof-of-Stake are, and how Ethereum is moving into PoS, I think that it will create inequality. PoS allows those who have stakes or investments in cryptocurrency to be miners. Just anyone would no longer be allowed to mine cryptocurrency. This means unless you have money from the start, other than buying cryptocurrency, you cannot earn money by mining it. It creates a rich gets richer scenario, puts more control into the PoS miner's hands, and
thus creates inequality. I hope the tech world looks into this before the hard fork into Ethereum 2.0
I am so grateful for techie youth! I am learning all the information I always wanted to learn but never knew how to start. Cryptocurrency was always so foreign to me - blockchains, hash, Bitcoin, eth - what did that all even mean? But Techie Youth I learned it all !
I am so so happy with Techie Youth today. I always wanted to gain financial literacy and knowledge about money in general. Today I did the perfect deep dive into stocks, trading, shares, etc!
Time IS Money - I Learned This at Techie Youth Today!
7/11
I forgot to submit my response yesterday, but I learned the value of time in Techie Youth. I learned that in a monetary sense, our hours are only worth $9 if we work hard and not smart. I will save time even in the hours I sleep. I will also save my money in terms of necessities vs wants. I also will use my time to learn new skills and enjoy my life.
Networking Smart - I Learned This at Techie Youth Today!
7/12
I always wondered how to use networking to my advantage. I naturally had the skills of going up to people, finding common ground, and getting people's contact information. However, Techie Youth helped me understand that to actually use the networks, I should find some way I can be of value to the other person so I can then open up a conversation and see how they can benefit me as well.
