Unit Assignments

Date: August.8.2022

Hello!

Today at Techie Youth, I've finally chosen to drop the idea of creating a website to publish.

I spent a good portion of my time creating a blog website, only to scrap all my hard work when the program I found required payment for publishing.

I have decided to put my efforts into a different option for the Writing Unit.

I began creating a copywriting style advertisement for the Techie Youth program.

I intend on turning it into a pdf for submission using Google Docs.

My day here at Techie Youth was not as productive as I would have hoped.

However, these things happen.

I will try to have an optimistic outlook on today's setbacks.

Because in the end, I found a concrete way of completing this unit assignment.

As for the Unit assignment for the Entrepreneur & Leadership Unit, it's proven more difficult than I realized to create an executive summary for a product.

With this assignment, I began trying to be too innovative to a point where it became unrealistic down the line.

To rectify this, I figured it would be in my best interest to choose a known product and try to add something of my own to it.

I realize that it is risky for me to have changed my plan for these assignments this late into my time here at this program.

However, I have faith in my abilities to get these done of high-quality to "graduate" here at Techie Youth.

Until next time!

Unit Assignments

Date: August.5.2022

Hello.

Today at Techie Youth, I faced a bit of a setback.

For the Writing Unit in this program, I wrote a blog to share my experience of my time here at Techie Youth. However, on most platforms, I encountered a fee to be paid to publish a website.

I have used Wix.com for this assignment.

And this feature on the website has postponed how soon I will have completed this task.

But, on the upside.

For the Entrepreneur & Leadership Unit in this program, I have completed a sufficient amount of work for it and am near finalization.

This inconvenience has been discouraging for me, considering how much time and effort I put into creating a well-designed and articulated blog.

I will continue to work to the best of my abilities and hope that the Techie Youth program maintains its faith in my dedication.

That sums up my day for today.

Bye for now!

Writing Unit

Date: August.1.2022

Hi there!

Today at Techie Youth, I learned about Customer service, Technical writing, Transcripts, and Grant writing.

I discovered that more goes into performing good customer service when applying yourself to the field.

In that subsection, I learned about the required attention to detail and thorough explanations and its importance to best cater to helping customers with their problem(s).

I learned about the different types of customer service jobs available and the skills needed to perform them with high quality. I learned about the grant and technical writing.

I gathered that technical writing focuses on providing detailed descriptions and instructions. And grant writing is the writing of proposals asking for grant money to use to fund charities and non-profit organizations.

The two writing types are niche jobs needed by many businesses and consumers and can generate a substantial income depending on one's level of work.

And with transcripts, I learned about the required skills needed for the field and links to possible jobs and gigs I could use if I ever showed interest.

Lastly, as I completed the subsections for this unit along with the required quizzes, videos, and articles, I began creating my writing assignment about my experience here at Techie Youth. With the chosen method of creating a blog page.

I will continue to work on this assignment to the best of my abilities and look forward to what the rest of my time here at Techie Youth will intake. That's all for today. I will see you very soon!

Techie Youth Daily Log: Writing Unit

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Hello!

I learned about blogging, guest blogging, ghostwriting, and SEO backlink content at Techie Youth.

I discovered that blogging differentiates from a website because blogging is written content (generally meant to instruct or be informal) on a website. There are many different types of blogs that cater to an array of audiences with the ability for someone to generate an income and a loyal fanbase.

To add to blogging, I learned about guest blogging. Guest blogging is inviting someone from outside your company to write a blog that will be published on your website. This aspect of blogging is beneficial for host blogs because it can boost SEO and provide fresh content.

Opposite to what I've learned about blogging and writing is ghostwriting.

Generally, the main goal of writing content is for exposure and name recognition by the public and other people within the same field. However, I learned that ghostwriters write and create content for larger platforms without mainstream credibility and can generate a sustainable profit.

Lastly, I learned about SEO backlink content. SEO is an acronym for search engine optimization. The main objective is to get a website listed higher in search rankings. This is done when one website links to another website.

Today, the Techie Youth program expanded my knowledge of the various forms of writing styles and how much you can earn within the different fields. The content Techie Youth provided taught me how to execute the topics they referred to in their lessons.

That's all for today, see you soon!

Writing Unit

Date: July.28.2022

Hey! I focused on completing this program's unit assignments today at Techie Youth. After beginning this, I continued with the Writing unit. I re-established my understanding of the Books, published, and self-published subsection. I learned about the pros and cons of both publishing routes and the expected earnings and hurdles with each venture. I concluded that when publishing with an agent and publisher for a book, a person can expect the help of a well-informed team, a lower percentage in royalties (earnings), and easier book management (getting a book out to the public). Compared to self-publishing, where one can expect a trial and error publishing process, a more significant percentage in royalties, and more freedom in the type of books published (various genres and tropes). I also learned about the work of a copywriter. The purpose of their job is to persuade/move a consumer towards acting on a purchase or goal. I learned about the different forms of copywriters ranging from in-house copywriters and agency copywriters to freelance copywriters and their general salaries. Plus the skills needed in this field to be an effective/quality copywriter.

Writing Unit

Date: July.27.2022

Hi! Today at Techie Youth, I began the unit: Writing. In this unit, I've learned about potential entry points for turning a passion for writing into a career. Within the subsection: Magazines and Journals, I learned about the different writing techniques required for the two jobs. Magazine writers typically write concise, interesting, and entertaining articles. Generally not requiring specific/strict expertise on the topic or article. In comparison to being a journal writer, typically writes long, studied, researched articles that focus on an academic and research-focused audience. In the section, I learned about potential earnings with these two writing styles. I read and watched videos and articles breaking-down tips and advice for writing a high-quality magazine or journal piece. I also began the subsection: Authoring Books. This section explained the traditional process of getting a book out to the public and with agents, editors, and publishers. I will continue with this section tomorrow and elevate my understanding of the lesson. I am enjoying my time here at Techie Youth and have a structured plan to complete the required assignments by the end of my time here! That's it for today, I will see you soon :)

Selling Computer-Designed Objects & Technological Crafts

Date: July.26.2022

Hey there! Today at Techie Youth, I completed the subsections Clothing, jewelry, fashion items & wearable-tech, pricing, and inventory planning. I learned about unique ways someone can incorporate technology into fashion items and how to create and sell creative clothing designs using at-home techniques. What I found most interesting was the use of bleach to customize garments. Within the videos and articles, I watched and read, I enjoyed seeing how easily a person could create a marketable product from home with a relatively low production cost. My favorites from this lesson were the bleach drawings on clothing and how the woman in the tutorial thoroughly explained her trial and error process to maintaining a high-quality product. Another favorite of mine was the use of technology in fashion (wearables) with things such as light-up jellyfish dresses, light-up jewelry, etc. I also learned about pricing and inventory. More specifically, how to calculate the price to which you sell a product with the cost of producing the product to reach a break-even price-point to generate a feasible profit margin. I also learned about the many pricing tactics used within marketing to place your business in fields better or leveled with competitors in the same market. I appreciate how Techie Youth provided a clear and direct form of action that would make starting up a business in this venture plausible. And finally, I completed one of the many required assignments within the Techie Youth program and will continue to do so for the rest of my time here. That's all for today, see you soon!

I watched videos that explained in-depth how to use their software, along with Techie Youth providing links to websites that make it easy to sell digital art while maintaining a substantial profit (websites such as RedBubble and CafePress). I enjoy how thorough and easy Techie Youth makes it to absorb and understand the content on their site and how well they categorize a step-by-step plan into venturing these alternative business routes. That's all for today. I'm excited to explore the more creative sides of a business!

Selling Computer-Designed Objects & Technological Crafts (Robotic Products)

Date: July.22.2022

Hey! Christina here. Today at Techie Youth, I learned about the fundamentals of electronic engineering. I learned about what it takes to make a functional product and market it to audiences such as the DIY community and older kids. I read articles that provided inspirational ideas for some products or kits to make and sell. Techie Youth provided project ideas from programs such as Rasberry Pi and Arduino. They provided steps to take to turn these projects into profitable businesses. They suggested creating a product design, purchasing a programmable prototype, then transitioning from prototype circuit boards to microcontrollers. These resources made it simple to see and explore what goes into being a part of such a niche business like robotic products (functional objects that can be interacted with physically and powered by custom electronics or a programmable microcontroller). At Techie Youth, I also learned about the basics of programming a microcontroller by watching a five-part tutorial video. This video went into depth about beginner electronics and the starting fundamentals such as direct and alternating currents (AC- Changes directions where it travels, DC- Is always only going to travel in one direction), closed and open circuits, LED, circuit design, build, and measuring, etc. I gained insight into the engineering and scientific aspect of microcontrollers.

Selling Computer-Designed Objects & Technological Crafts (Laser Cutter)

Date: July.20.2022

Hello! Today at Techie Youth, I learned about laser-cut products. Laser cutters are tools used to create products ranging from simple wooden boxes to engravings on other materials. A laser cutter is a computer-controlled machine that uses a laser beam to cut or engrave a material. Within this lesson provided by Techie Youth, I was able to read and watch articles and videos going into an in-depth analysis of ways to create a business with the use of a laser cutter and the best ways to go about purchasing one and having a high-quality product in the result of owning a laser cutter. I engaged with a tutorial that explained the basics of illustrations (creating a design for laser cutting) Tip's and techniques such as custom shapes, shape builders, lines, brushes, types, custom logos, etc. Techie Youth has provided abundant resources to find laser-cut designed software along with attached tutorials and articles dedicated to teaching how to create the best quality laser-cut product and the material to use and not to use. With this lesson, I learned that with a laser cutter, I can generate a business and profit if done correctly and that there are many design options to sell to audiences.

Hello there! Today at Techie Youth, I focused on finishing up watching and reading videos and articles on one of the many subsections under the Prerequisite Unit: Intro to Earning Money Online and Selling Computer-Designed Objects & Elective Unit: Technological Crafts categories. I continued to gain more insight into how to create and run a successful business with a 3D printer and the programs needed to do so. Along with watching videos on such a topic, I retracted back to a previous lesson on Techie Youth to finalize some assignments I planned on completing in a seeming unorthodox fashion. I will continue to be fully committed to the Techie Youth program and have enjoyed exploring and learning different avenues in a short time with this program.

Entrepreneurship & Business Leadership

Date: July.14.2022

Hi, Christina here! Today at Techie Youth, I have gained a deeper insight into the critical aspects of entrepreneurship. The main topics I focused on today were: how to execute sales, clients, contracts, and the hiring process of employees. In this section, I learned how to interact with and attract customers and how to go about marketing to them. To go along with this, I learned about negotiation tactics to better present myself to potential clients and business partners. These skills are essential in running a successful business because it's an optimal way to improve sales and maximize potential earned profits. Key factors of knowing when to not speak during negotiations or how to pitch and present a product increase an aspiring entrepreneur's chance of success. There were many details about a business that I was unaware of or complacent about before coming across these Techie Youth connections. The main takeaway I gained today was tips and tricks to use and how to create inventory for a product, market products to an audience, and manage profit margins to preserve the longevity of a business's financial and public growth. The Techie Youth program has made learning this information simply on their platform, it has been easy to gain insightful knowledge of beginning to be an entrepreneur and the dos and donts of how to run and create a successful business.
