Today at Techie Youth I learned that a good PM has high emotional intelligence, relationship management, self-awareness, self management and social awareness. I read more about how one can work remotely as a product manager. I also gained more insight of how PM get hired such as their previous experience. However I also learned one can get hired as a PM without any experience such as having Professional competencies and skills.
Today at Techie youth I learned different ways to design clothes such as first learning about sewing, designing and fashion. One can gain inspiration simply by drawing out their ideas and then considering which fabrics to use, along with the colors and patterns. I learned interesting steps of drawing on a Croquis. The best part was learning how to then sell your designs and finished pieces on online outlets or even in person.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about exit strategies. I learned that exit strategies are a plan of how that company could its end via a positive desirable outcome. I also learned about executive summaries which are a form of a business plan and provides core information about a business in the most concise format as possible. There are various sections such as business name / contact info, elevator pitch, Business model and financials, customer and market, team and cofounders, and risks and uncertainties.
Today at Techie Youth, I learned The Difference Between Options & Stocks. I learned A stock is a piece of ownership in a company that is listed on an exchange. These pieces of ownership are often called shares. When you buy shares of a company, you become a shareholder. While on the other hand, Options are an asset class that belongs to a group of securities known as derivatives. In terms of investing, you can invest in two basic types of options: calls and puts. Evidently Both stocks and options can be beneficial assets to your investment portfolio — but all trading and investing involves potential benefits and possible drawbacks that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Today I learned alittle more about what employers are looking for when they do a google search on you. For instance, they want to see professional pictures like a headshot. They also want to see your online portfolio to see your experience, education and skills. Lastly employers look for your character and behavior on social media as you will be working for them and not just representing yourself but the company/ organization as well. I also got to look into 50 most common interview questions which is great practice for future interviews or phone screenings.
Today at Techie Youth I learned a lot about fundraising. I learned there are different careers revolved around fund raising such as a gift officer, community outreach advocate or professional fundraiser. I also learned some great reasons to become a fundraiser such as working with great organizations, having an impact or working with diverse populations. I also learned some resources that are available for volunteer work such as volunteer match.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about the career choice of Virtual Assistant. A virtual assistant is an independent worker who assists with administrative, business development, social media, marketing or other tasks. They work remotely, often from a home office. Some skills a Virtual Assistant must have is time management, bookkeeping, Scheduling and Correspondence, content management, social media management and many more. Through outlets like Wix, one can build their portfolio and showcase their experience, education and skills to draw the attention of employers recruiting virtual assistants.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about Copy Writing and how writers' main goal is to use a call for action to the readers. Writers aim to educate the reader how they can benefit from such product for example, while content writers write to inform. I also learned about guest blogging which is when you write content for other people's sites which evidently allows your content to be seen by new audiences. Finally, I learned about technical which aims to be detailed and descriptive while providing instructions to readers / users.
Today at Techie youth I reviewed and gained more knowledge on being careful of scams when applying to jobs. For instance, a job asking for money upfront is a scam. A job willing to hire you without interviewing you or without you having the experience or credentials is also a scam. I learned some key tips to do prior to accepting a job offer to ensure it is not a scam. Such as Research the firm. Search the name of the firm online with the words “complaint,” “scam,” or “reviews.” This has been helpful for me as I have been on a journey to finding a full-time job within my area of study and career path, so I now have some pointers when seeking employment.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about Product managers. I learned their roles consist of conducting research, developing a strategy, communicating plans, coordinating development, and acting on data and feedback analysis. What makes a great product manager is being self-aware as well as so socially aware. Product managers are also someone who champions a product. A product manager's job is to lead the development and marketing of a product through all stages of its life cycle, from beginning to end.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about The Who, What, Why, & How of Digital Marketing. I learned that digital marketing refers to all marketing efforts that occur on the internet. DM is important because it helps you reach a larger audience than you could through traditional methods. On a side note, I also learned about art and how there are resources available for artists with special challenges and disabilities such as ADHD and Dyslexia. Finally, I learned about niche websites and how they are an online resource that focuses on a particular interest, topic or theme that is common to a narrow group people in a larger market.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about Profit Model which refers to a company’s plan that aims to make the business profitable and viable. It lays out what the company plans to manufacture or provide, how sales will be generated, and all the expenses that the business will have. I also learned about executive summaries which aim to convince potential investors that the company is viable. Lastly I learned about the acronym MVP which is A minimum viable product, or MVP, is a product with enough features to attract early-adopter customers and validate a product idea early in the product development cycle.
Today Techie Youth I learned a lot of advertising within apps like Facebook, Instagram and twitter and how one can make money doing so. I also learned alot about entrepreneurship and how one should have certain hard and soft skills. It was interesting to look at "a day in the life " of certain entrepreneurs and how they make their daily decisions as well as financial decisions.
Today I learned about Sales funnel which is each step that someone has to take in order to become your customer. I also learned about click funnels as it pertains to creating a website. I learned that this type of funnel is an easy-to-use software that business owners can use instead of a traditional website to sell their products or services. I received insight on creating a membership site. I found it interesting how membership sites are part of your online business that provides premium content, like online courses, newsletters, online events, and other perks, to subscribers. Lastly, I got some new knowledge on the business model which refers to refers to a company's plan for making a profit.
Today at Techie Youth I learned a great deal about creating apps in IOS and Androids both of which were interesting to know the differences. I also learned the differences between native apps, hybrid apps and web apps which was pretty cool considering I didn't know there were so many different types of apps. I also learned about how to make money from apps which I found fun to know in case I develop the curiosity to develop my own app one day.
Today was an eventful today for me. I spent the last 5 hours learning all about web development. More specifically how to start a website and all the various roles that play a part in web developing. One thing that stood out to me was the difference in SQL and NoSQL before today I have never heard those terms let alone knew what they meant so it was interesting to put my web hat on and learn more.
Today at Techie Youth I learned the difference between Web Design and Web Development. Web design revolves around the layout and visual appearance of a website. While a web developer is someone who builds and maintains the core structure of a website. Web Designers must be creative, and have a sense of graphic and technical skills. A web developer has more responsibility is the sense of having to convert the web design into a functional website. Overall both careers and passions go hand and hand, one can't function without the other.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about Digital Marketing which is the use of internet, mobile devices, social media, search engines and other channels to reach consumers. I learned that Digital Marketing is about advertising and having persuasion. You have to have skills such as design, writing/ editing and social media marketing. I also learned how one can get paid through research and feedback all by giving your opinion and participating in scientific and social experiments.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about Data entry. I learned that it is the transcription of data from one form into another. For example hand written documents, information off spreadsheets , or sequence of numbers. It is ideal for those who are interested in data entry to be able to type 30 words per minute. With this skill one can complete trainings and be certified. I also about free lance writing and how you can market yourself through your writing. Typing can be fun especially if it allows you to earn money and brand yourself!
Today at Techie Youth I learned a great deal about writing. It all started with learning how to self-publish a book to how to write a grant letter. I learned great tips like utilizing google docs/ google drive to write / edit your writings prior to publishing. I also learned about a website called Upwork where one could look for someone needed for a writing job or even look for work for themselves. Additionally I learned about 99deigns.com where a self-published author could have the cover of their book made. Very interesting stuff if I ever decide to write a book one day.
Today I learned the extensive beauty of social media and how it is more than just a platform for selfies and silly videos. The main point I grasped today was the benefit of finding a niche that is profitable. With so many social media outlets there are various opportunities for us to become influencers, bloggers, sellers etc it all begins with us and what we have a passion for. I also learned various photo and video editing tips to make one's social media more desirable and draw more attention. It's exciting to know that at one point majority of social media influencers started with no followers and with consistency, creativity and pursuing their passion, their media followings grew.
Today I learned the importance of networking with other people. I learned a great tip which is to google a person you see at a conference prior to speaking to them. I also got some insight on the best places to network such as professional meetings, the office, community events, alumni events and even at school. I also learned the difference between net incomed which is what you keep and gross income which is what you make. Finally today I learned a great deal about how to save money and mange my time. I learned useful tips such as being organized, having a schedule and a calendar or planner.
Through today's content I learned a lot about how to prepare yourself when seeking jobs as well as when you already have one. I first learned how social media has an impact on one's public image and that employers will have certain things to be on the lookout for. I learned a lot of tips on how to find remote jobs and the importance of paying attention to job description as hybrid and completely remote are two separate job types. I gained a lot of insight on how to ace a job interview such as practice interviews, always have questions for the interviewer, research the company before the interview and finally always bring a notebook and pen. The final pieces of advice I learned today was "Negotiation Power" when it comes to salary you should be paid for your worth. A final piece of advice I learned through Techie Youth is "Don't talk in an interview; Answer, ask, listen and sell."
Greetings! This is definitely a loaded question for me being that I learned so much just on my first day working for Techie Youth. For the start of my day I learned about Financial Management/ Time management and how to improve quality of life. Something that resonated with me was life satisfaction more specifically "You got to love what you do, make sure you are happy with what you do". I loved this motivational phrase because it is something I practice within any area of study, job, internship, or volunteer work. All of which have revolved around what I love which is helping people. I also got to see a bigger picture of reasons to consider working remotely. The main reason that stuck with me is "Live life on your own terms". I learned a new term today which is "Digital Nomad". I really fancied the statement "Never work for people you don't feel are ethical". Some more interesting things I learned is about a Charles Schwab Bank Account. Finally I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to improve my LinkedIn profile to increase my chances of catching a job recruiters eye and even more so I found it very helpful to learn tips on writing a cover letter and an efficient resume. So much interesting and helpful information just on my first day! It's safe to say it was a eventful remote day.
