Using the Database Design Course

Today on techie youth and pretty much for the whole week, I watched videos about web development and courses on designing databases. Along with the videos and other resources provided I branched out and read other articles. Although there are many different database models, relational databases are the most used. Primary keys are used by relational databases to uniquely identify each record and organize data into tables. Depending on the database model they utilize, database designers arrange data. You should be familiar with SQL or other database query languages and the connections between the different data types in your database architecture.

How to make money as a musician

On techie youth today, I read an article on how to make money as a musician. The first was to earn streaming royalties through digital distribution. As a musician it is important to stream your work on popular streaming platforms such as Spotify and apple music. You can also make money playing gigs and it is the most profitable ways to make money. A lot of musicians make extra money by collaborating with brands and other musicians. It is hard to collect revenue from a single source as a musician so it is best that you fund your career by by constructing a system of diverse revenue streams.

3 Jobs you can get as someone who loves music

Music is universal. Everyone loves music, even if it is not the same music that you may enjoy listening to. In one of the articles that I read, there were 3 positions that stuck out to me. Number 1 was a music teacher. I love music and being able to teach it to kids sounds very fun. Next is a DJ. I hate going to a party and good music or at least a variety of music is not being played. Becoming a DJ I feel would be successful for me because I know what music to play to cater to my age group. I'll just need more training for the technical stuff. Lastly a music therapist. The fact that I am already pursuing a career in the healthcare field, being a music therapist is not to far off. i can help people to combat mental illness, diseases that they may be facing, or even dementia or Alzheimer's through music.

The 7 laws of film making

Today on Techie Youth, I learn about the 7 laws of film making. The first rule is to watch every frame and raw footage at least twice and pay attention to the little mistakes and details. the second one is to nurture the relationship with the editor and director. stay positive because your mood and energy can effect everyone else. The third rule is to find any shot instantly; organization is paramount. Rule four is to factor in extra time for renders, exports, errors, and crashes. There are certain things that happen while you're editing that you can not control so you should start earlier in case the unexpected happens. Rule 5 is to attempt edits that shouldn't work. everything is adjustable and it can end up being more better than you had. Rule 6 is to spend more time on your audio. Lastly rule 7 is to cut for the whole scene, but always in the context to the whole film. Every edit effects the whole film.

The keys to being an entrepreneur

Today on Techie youth, I learned about the fundamentals of being an entrepreneur. In an article I read, they pointed out five skills that entrepreneurs should have. Those five skills are communication, sales, focus, ability to learn, and business strategy. As communication being number one on that list, I feel as though you need to be able to communicate effectively. Talking is going to pave the way of your career whether its talking to investors, your employees, or customers. How you talk to someone impacts if they will come back to you business or even consider investing in your business. Therefore, communication is a vital factor in entrepreneurship.

Improving my quality of life

Today on Techie youth, I finished the second prerequisite, Improving Your Quality of Life. one of my main takeaways was health. For the most part I am in control for my health and my well-being. With hypertension and diabetes running in my family, I need to be cautious with the food that I consume. I believe because I am young, I am invincible. However, if I don't try to fix my health now, it can impact me negatively in the future. To end it off I did the assignment and saved it to my google docs. This way, I can look back at it and edit it if I need to.

Finding ways to manage stress

On Techie Youth today I learned methods that I can use to manage stress, stay healthy, and maintain happiness. Something that stuck out to me was sleeping. For someone who loves to sleep , it doesn’t seem like I get enough of it. I believe that sleep patterns contribute to the way that I feel each day. It contributes to my laziness and thats why my days aren’t as productive as I would want them to be. Because I lack sleep all I want to do is sleep. As a result, I don’t get anything done, and I start to stress about the things I haven’t got done. So to stay healthy and manage my stress, I am going to incorporate a better sleeping schedule I can at least get 7 hours of sleep each night.

Improving my habits with time management

Today on techie youth, I started the curriculum for time management. Being able to manage my time effectively has always been a struggle for me especially during the pandemic. With my nursing classes, I always started work late, didn't study ahead of time, and always found myself panicking and cramming information. Now that I am starting college soon, I definitely need to take the information and resources I learned today and use it to my advantage. The skills needed for effective time management are organization, prioritization, goal-setting, communication, planning, and stress management. I need to find a way to tune out distractions, and stop procrastinating. resources that I plan on using in the future are the digital planners. I feel like they will be really helpful during college and easy to manage.

Being responsible with your finances

Today on Techie youth, I learned what it takes to have financial awareness. One of the points that stood out was budgeting and differentiating between wants and necessities. One of the issues that I have with saving money is I'll spend more money on wants like sneakers and clothing and won't save it for necessary things like money for school, food, or just putting it in a savings account. After reading one of the articles, I need to make a list of things that are necessary to buy instead of spending all my money on wants.

Networking into you future

Today on techie youth I learned about the dos and don’ts of networking. One of the takeaways I obtained were you should not only network when you need to work. Desperation and only reaching out when you need something can lead to poor connections. Instead you should continuously network with the people that you met and stay in touch. Engage and show interest in their company and it can lead to better experiences. Before, I was not sure how to to network but now I have a better understanding.

How to be aware of scams

Today on techie youth I learned how to look out for scams. When you need the money, an advertisement saying that they can help you get quick cash can be rather intriguing. However, most of these claims are FAKE. Red flags that should tell you that something is a scam are: they ask for money up front, the offer you a job without someone contacting you about your credentials or qualifications, they ask for personal financial information such as you bank information or social security number at the initial stage of the interview, and their ads say something like “Unlimited amount of money.” One of the experiences that I had with scams is I gave someone my bank information believing

I would get money deposited into my account no problem. Turns out, it was a fraudulent check! Don’t worry I was very young and naïve at the time. Money may sound good but scammers use you when you are vulnerable to trap you. It is best to always follow the general rule, if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is!

How to successfully work a remote job

Today I learned what it takes to work a remote job. Working remotely may seem like you get to do whatever you want and work wherever you want. However it is the opposite depending on the company you work with. You still need to stay focused and actually get work done and being in an area where it is distracting can inhibit you from doing so. Although it may seem nice think about work at the beach or pool, you still need to consider the time it takes for you to complete your tasks.

Mastering the job interview & getting hired

Today on Techie Youth, I’ve reviewed the subject of mastering the job interview. I learned the many things that it takes to be successful in an interview. At first I wasn’t sure about the amount of dedication and preparation it takes for an interview but this section gave a lot of good videos and articles that I actually recommended one of the articles to a friend. One of the takeaways that I got was that you should research the company before going to the interview. I thought that that was such a smart idea because it’s better to go to your interview with prior knowledge than not having any knowledge of the company at all. It shows how enthusiastic you are about getting the job and impresses the person that’s interviewing you. Another takeaway was being on time is late and being early is on time. One of the problems that I have is being on time and punctuality so from now on I’ll just be earlier then the time I’m supposed to be at work.

Prerequisites to getting employed

Today I reviewed the prerequisites to get employed. This included having a Linkedin account, a resume, and a cover letter. I updated my Linkedin account since I’ve previously graduated and have recent experience. My resume remained the same and I made my first cover letter today. I also learned that the image that you put forth online can impact whether you get a job, or keep your spot at a university or college. Thankfully when I looked my name up on Google, nothing but my Linkedin account came up.

Before reading the content, I did not know that there were so many online banks accounts to apply for depending on your circumstances.
