Today at Techie Youth I learned about niche websites. These websites are similar to blogs but it's only for a specific topic. For example, someone can blog about gardening or architecture in the mid-1900s. In order for your website to thrive, it's important to analyze popular topics and topics that may be dying out. Although your website may not do super well at first, this is because google takes 6 months to trust the website. I also learned about product managers and their responsibilities to make a product.
Today at Techie Youth I learned more about WordPress and how to customize your webpage. then, I took the quiz on WordPress. Although WordPress is free, not paying for anything extra means that you won't actually get your own special domain name and instead, at the end of your website, there will be WordPress at the end of your website url. then, I learned about more expectations of a virtual assistant and where to find possible jobs. I started working on my upwork profile to make it more tuned to virtual assistance.
Today at Techie youth I continued the virtual assistant unit and learned how to use platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube to grow a following. I've always been interested in YouTube and have wanted to make content for a while but never got enough courage to do so because of poor lighting and background noise. To grow a following on YouTube, you must find a niche, make videos, engage with your audience, and engage with audiences or people involved in your niche. I also learned about the differences in slang and words used in British and American vocabulary.
Today at Techie Youth I started the virtual assistant unit. Virtual assistants can do anything from transcribing messages, making company travel arrangements, answering the phone, and taking care of scheduling. In order to do this as efficiently as possible, there are applications like google docs, google drive, calendar, google sheets, and docs to organize information. Being a virtual assistant may be overwhelming but using travel sites like trivago, you can easily find hotels and other places to visit. By sorting your emails, you also have a clear schedule of who to reply to in a day.
Today at Techie Youth I made a upwork profile and learned how to use wordpress. I also wrote a promotional article for Techie youth as my writing assignment
Today at techie youth I learned more about services like modeling, voice acting, web design, and data entry. It is helpful to have a strong online presence on social media platforms and to design your own page as a portfolio. Just like any other field, there are many modeling scams out there. you should not have to pay the company anything and they should not be forcing you to work with their makeup team for your portfolio.
For the past 2 days at techie youth, I've been learning about writing as a career. I learned about blogging, copywriting, and technical writing. Bloggers can write about anything they are passionate and knowledgeable about. They don't earn much by themselves but if you're lucky, your blog has the potential to blow up. On your blog, you can have all kinds of advertisements or moneymaking methods but one of the is the PPC. PPC is pay per click and you get paid for every person that clicks on the ad in your blog. Blogs can be complicated because of SEOs and domains. It's important to get a website name with lots of keywords so it's easily found. Copywriters usually write more promotional things like ads. today I learned about technical writing and customer service. while you don't want to seem too cold in customer service emails, it's important to save time. To do this, it's optimal to have a set of automatic responses to common questions
Today at Techie Youth I did my assignment using GIMP and attempted digital art. Then, I learned about writing as a career, writing tips, and different kinds of writers. A magazine writer would usually be writing about anything they are knowledgeable about or interested in while a journal writer writes about things specific to the scientific community (research paper). A research paper has to be thoroughly peer reviewed and have extensive research done to qualify it.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about inventory in a small business and how you should manage that with your sales. You don't want to have no inventory because you don't want to have customers wait too long for their product. However, you also don't want to overproduce and lose product from not selling enough. I also learned about different avenues online that I can sell products on like etsy and botana. You can also make your own website but it's complicated and requires extensive knowledge and time. So instead, I learned how to create your own spaces using wix and other tools like wix. Another issue that comes up with creating your own website is that you have to find a way to reach out to potential customers. I also took some time to review some basic functions of GIMP for the assignment
Today at Techie youth I learned about the other ways of using crafts to make money by creating clothes and fashion. I learned about the creative process and how designs usually come to life. Then I watched some videos on someone printing a design on a shirt and another video where a girl was explaining how she used bleach to draw patterns on clothing. I also learned about wearables and how you could make this possible using tinkercad. while exploring the tinkercad page, I saw a video on how a girl made a 3D printer backpack and constellation led dresses.
Today I dedicated my time at Techie Youth to learning more about GIMP and watched the entire youtube playlist. I learned how to make a logo glossy, have the glitch effect, look like denim, look gold, looks like steel, look shattered, how to swap faces on pictures, how to edit colors on photos, and more. It was really fun to try all these styles out and interesting to just watch him go through the process and see the end result.
Today at Techie Youth I continued the digital art unit and continued to watch more of the Inkscape basics playlist. The playlist was very informative and gave me ideas on what I could do. I didn't finish the entire playlist and I went into learning how to use GIMP to edit photos. That was very interesting to watch and it seemed easier to use than photoshop. I learned how to make a Christmas scene in Inkscape, do shading on portraits, and change sizes of features on GIMP
Today at Techie Youth I learned more about digital art, specifically in inkscape. With inkscape I practiced using the youtube playlist. Inkscape is free and I learned how to make shapes, do basic lineart, and do cutouts. I also learned how to transfer these designs onto clothing. However, I'm not good at drawing and I dont think I'll want to make a living out of art.
Today at Techie youth I learned about making art into a career and the different components that you have to take into account. There are many roles in the art field including art consultant, art agent, and other people who help you sell art into corporate areas. I also learned about vanity galleries and other art scams. Vanity galleries are only a stroke for your ego and require ridiculous amounts of money. They will not aid in your art career growth as professionals looking for artist don't take vanity artists seriously.
Today at Techie youth I reviewed the art unit and how to sell art online. I learned that you have to actively seek customers and you don't want to be too aggressive on your account to push customers to buy your pieces. however, you also don't want to be too passive. I learned about the 4 ps and how to sell anything using promise, pitch, picture, and proof.
Yesterday I ended up finishing the executive summary. Today I wrapped up the unit on robotic products. I learned about microcontroller and making a circuit with it. Microcontrollers are basically small computers and once you learn how to code and make a circuit on them, you could even build robots. It was very confusing and had many steps to it. I also learned how to convert a chunkier Arduino uno into an ATmega328. I started the unit on how to make digital art by first learning how to make a business out of it.
Today at Techie Youth I finished watching the YouTube series on electronics and circuits. The videos were teaching me different components like working with LED lights, resistors, and the difference between open and closed circuits. I feel like some concepts were hard to understand so maybe electronics aren't for me. After that, I watched a video on what you should salvage from electronics such as a cooling fan. they showed how you can add carbon fiber fabric to filter it and use it as an exhaust fan for other projects. I also learned about salvaging a radio. To catch up on my last missing assignment, I started making an executive summary for the idea of rehoming cats in shelters via cat cafe.
Today at Techie Youth I caught up on all my assignments and completed my resume, my cover letter for a pretend job as a barista, and my linkedin profile. I feel like the linkedin profile will be extremely helpful in the future when I apply to more jobs. I also completed making profiles on different social media platforms and used them to check out Techie Youth. I also completed a checklist based on things I want to do to improve my quality of life.
Today at Techie Youth I learned more about using applications like adobe illustrator, inkscape, and Arduino uno. In adobe illustrator, the video demonstrated how to add text and showed me how to use the interface to make an image . In inkscape, the video showed me how to use line art in the software to create a logo. The most interesting was using Arduino uno since I've already used it multiple times in school.
Today I finished the 3D printing unit and started the laser cutting unit. The unit started to teach me about how to use Adobe Illustrator which I have never used before. I have used adobe premier before and I broke the video into 2 halves to learn today and the next time I log on. I learned how to set up the document, draw shapes and lines, and draw with the shape builder so far.
Today at Techie Youth I continued to learn about ow you can make money using the technology of the 3d printer. This was especially interesting to me because my school has multiple technology classes including a CAD class where we can also get certified by mid school year. However, du to other extracurriculars, I never got to take this class and probably never will. However, in the 3D printing section of entrepreneurship, the videos included taught me some of the things I would've learned in class like modeling and using the softwares themselves
Today I learned about hiring people and firing them. The most important thing I learned was about all the different things you have to look out for when firing someone. For example, in New York, the law is that you can hire and fire at will. However, employers have to be very vague about the reason why the employee is being fired, or else it can be legally contested in court. There is also a paper employers can ask the person being fired to sign which promises they wont contest in court but you are not required to sign it.

Today I learned how to come p with your own business idea and how that business idea could grow ino something more. First you have to come up withh a minimal idea of how your business would look. You wouldn't want to partner with someone just because they were your best friend. You want someone who's going to pull their weight and do their part. Additionally, you want to account for how much of the product you should produce and when coming up with the idea, try to come up with why someone would buy it, whether its a need or it brings them happiness.

Today I learned how to model your business and account for funds, specifically for rent or the area that you need for your business to run. I learned to watch out for renewing leases, sneaky landlord clauses that give them the right to kick the tenants out at any time.
Today I learned about the power of time management and how time is money. I was shown ways where time could be wasted easily and how to make better use of that time. I also learned about the Parkinsons Law which was particularly interesting since it related to school work so much.
Today I learned about financial freedom, how to say no, and other wellness things you need to know while working any job. One of the things I learned as that you should be paid for work, especially overtime or whatever else your boss asks you to do. If your boss suddenly asks you at 6 for something that's going to take a while, you shouldbe paid as such or do it during work hours. Another piece of advice was to make small talk with the negotiator and spend as much time as possible talking to them. By doing so, tey have invested time in you ad would be more willing to make a sale to you below their original price.
Today at Techie Youth I learned how to write resumes, how to take more control of my job seeking journey, and how I should set up my social media. I learned about different ways to handle finances through checking accounts and cryptocurrency. I'm really grateful for the resume videos because they taught me things that my career readiness teacher didn't such as what to write in the cover letter and how to format things when you have no previous work experience. Before, I thought that no resume would e complete without prior work experience but now as it turns out you don't need work experience to have a good resume. When looking for a job, you should take any opportunities that you get that fit you and should be eager to show your interest in the position.
