Monday 08/15 - On Monday I finished up the writing unit which introduced me to the providing services/exchanging your skilled time for money unit. In this unit I explored the advantage of utilizing your personal skills to your advantage. For example, some minimally-skilled jobs include writing and content creation, online tutoring, and digital marketing. There are other specialized services such as voice acting, online modeling, and artistry. I found these interesting because I didn’t know it was such a big industry.
Tuesday 08/16 - On Tuesday I focused more on the resources I can use to explore jobs that will pay me hourly for my skills. I discovered that there are websites such as Fiverr and Upwork that will help people find you and hire you for specific artwork or services. I spent some time on Fiverr and saw all the various types of services they offer. You can hire someone to create a logo for you or even an intro for a company presentation or YouTube channel. Lastly, I learned that through these skills, you can gain confidence and become an expert which is called a clarity expert.
Thursday 08/18 - On Thursday I decided to hop into the Selling Art Online unit because it caught my eye. Through this unit I learned that selling art online can actually be profitable. I feel like it relates back to selling your skills to people and those who admire your work. I learned about how exactly to sell art online, where to connect with potential clients, and social platforms beneficial to online artists. I learned about methods such as the 4-Ps method that apply to sell art or any other items online. Connecting with high-end art-buyer clients is not as difficult as I thought. One just needs the correct advice and resources to aid them.
Friday 08/19 - Today at Techie Youth I finished up the Selling Art Online unit. I watched very informative videos on how to start an online shop like Etsy, organization resources, the areas of focus needed through Business Model Canvas which include a niche, an audience, sales and marketing channels, and customer relationships along with other key components. I listened to an animation artist speak on how to gain customers and buyers through email newsletters. Additionally, Craigslist is a great platform for getting started with selling and if someone wants to increase sales.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about laser cutting. Laser cutting is a tool used to cut out shapes from certain materials. It’s makes a difficult job easier as it cuts precisely and neatly. With shapes cut out, one can create 3D and 2D objects such as squares with just a little help from glue and adhesive. I read guides on laser cutting prep, and how to set up your space before modeling. There are websites like Ponko that provide format files for modeling. I watched a complete tutorial on how to use Adobe illustrator techniques.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about graphic designs, how to sell and buy art online and cryptography and how stocks affect the sales market. I learned about making digital pieces and how to gain profit using different softwares to make the most profit. Lastly, I learned how to create a a social niche page/theme page on Pinterest and provide users with ideas for nail inspiration and designs.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about how to open an online business based on computerized sales and crafts made from digital tools and apps. I learned about how income varies, skill requirements, and how to plan. What I found the most interesting was how to create 3D objects. Software packages such as TinkerCard and Blender are helpful in making 3D objects on web browsers. I watched many tutorials on this, which gave me more insight and guidance on how to go about making these specific crafts. I got to experiment and analyze with different web pages to see which ones made it convenient and easy for a beginner to work with.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about more ways to earn money online. I was surprised to see the amount of companies that offer money for surveys, giving detailed reviews, and just offering predictions and personal opinions. There were options such as proofreading, reviewing music, writing greeting cards, being a mock juror, and translating for people who aren’t bilingual. Learning about these options really opened my eyes and now I feel like I can have multiple streams of income.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about how to find easy and convenient ways to earn money online. Getting involved and doing research on how to expand sources of income, is important especially as a student or someone who doesn’t like being in an actual office or work place. There are many available websites where one can involved with and complete surveys. I explored a website where you can simply get paid for providing the company with your opinions on specific topics or ideas for their corporation and website.
Today at Techie Youth I finished up the Business and Leadership unit. I learned about the final steps on completing and setting up the launch of your business. I explored how to create a MVP version of my product, getting sales and clients, hiring employees, and how to set up banking accounts under the name of your company. What most intrigued me today was the video on how to physiologically win people over in order to get them to like you as a person and then want to do business with you. Additionally, it was fun and interesting to do my first executive summary because I got to discover my “company’s” status, needs, wants, and goals.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about how to launch a business after having a concrete plan and foundation made. Things like branding, supported funding, creating a logo and slogan, and looking into copyrights are all important steps towards launching a business. Branding for example, includes establishing the specific industry that your company will be categorized in, and setting the tone for the certain message you want to convey through your business and product. Searching for funding, setting a budget, and raising money to launch your business is crucial because without certain funds, the launch wont be the most effective and smooth process. Lastly, there are some things one must keep in mind when creating a brand’s logo and slogan. These things include, what colors, eye candy, tone, and dynamic you wish to be represented through your individualized logo and what direct message you want buyers to read along with your logo.
Today at Techie Youth I learned all I need to know to start a business. Everything needed to set up a business’ foundations was discussed in todays lessons. I learned about business models, the possibility of startup failure in a freshly launched business, the difference between corporations and sole proprietorship, legal business debt, revenue streams, how to get monetized, and what to expect when dealing with legal battles and how it will affect your business depending on the type of foundation one has. There are various pros and cons when it comes to the development of certain corporations and multiple ways to create extra profit and maintain it.
Today at Techie Youth I started the entrepreneurship elective. I learned a lot of what it takes to start a business, manage one, be successful, and work a business from home. There are various aspects to make up a successful business and that includes dedication, drive, and a good back up plan. What intrigued me the most was the simplicity of becoming an entrepreneurship from the comfort of your own home and how you can make 6 figures while doing so.
Today at Techie Youth I finished up my second prerequisite unit. This unit focused one our personal well-being and how to be more efficient both physically and mentally. I learned about how to use my time productively and how valuable time really is especially in the work field. Everyday is another shot at expanding on your personal skills and being the best version of yourself. Tied into that comes mental health and health overall. I learned about how important it is to eat healthy, stay active, and sleep well. The things we feed our bodies reflect how we feel in all aspects of health. The amount of sleep we get every night, reflect in our day to day basis and how well we perform in our tasks.
Today at Techie Youth I learned much about the ‘working from home’ realm of things and the crucial things you need to know in order to be successful as an online employee. I started the day by tuning into Micheal Guttman’s videos on LinkedIn about the benefits of being a remote worker and how to create a more efficient environment from the comfort of our homes. He spoke on how to balance our day to day, setting up meeting conferences, keeping track of our goals and milestones, having clear communication with our co-workers and boss, and ensuring that our work is a clear representation of us as hard-working individuals. In the same lane of remote working, I also read many articles about online scams. I was taught to be aware of certain opportunities due to the fact that they might just be too good to be true. One should always read the fine print, and speak with employers to learn more about the offers they are making. Lastly, I started my 2nd prerequisite unit today and I started to learn about living expenses, how they vary across states, and which expenses one should consider as necessities.
Today at Techie Youth I learned more about what employers search for in an individual when hiring for their company. Some of the essential points they expect the person applying to hit includes being friendly, being a great listener, coming off as reliable when it comes to fulfilling and contributing to the company’s needs, being honest and trustworthy, and creating a friendly and safe environment with the people you will work with. Today’s lessons taught me a lot about how to present myself in any interview whether its face-to-face or its virtual.
Today at Techie Youth I learned so much about the prior preparation needed to apply to a job and how an individual should behave when speaking to supervisors and important individuals belonging to a company. When it comes to the preparation process, one should have prepared a cover letter and a resume. An advantage is a LinkedIn profile where your employer can view your prior education, experience, interests, and skills. This way they can decide whether your specific skills can aid and are needed at their company, determining if you are a good candidate. The manner in which you present yourself is also very important. Speaking more about “you” instead of “I” makes you come off as more self-less and focused on the employer’s needs rather than yours. Due to the pandemic, online interviews are more common. Today at Techie Youth I watched videos on interview etiquette and how to set up a profesional and quiet environment for such event.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about the financial aspects that are involved with stocks, card payments, and other terms such as bonds and volatility. The lessons I reviewed dove deep into finances and what certain definitions mean in relation to money. For example, a bid is the amount of money a person is offering and willing to pay for a stock, volatility is the velocity in which a stock moves up or down. Other terms include day order, market order, bull and bear market, and limit order. All these terms play an important role when understanding stocks and how finances work.
Today at Techie youth I learned about how communities and groups are made on social media networks such as Instagram, Facebook, Wechat, and Tiktok. I discovered the importance of having a set goal of how you want your certain aesthetic and page to be viewed as and the message you wish to give out to those who follow your page. This will help you in reaching your desired audience and spreading your content in a more efficient fashion. For example, using the correct hashtags, posting photos/videos during times where people are the most active, editing your content in a manner that actually attracts people and makes them want to view more of your page.
