My experience in Techie Youth has been interesting and fun. The reason why is because I learnt a lot about making money online which I feel could help me in the future. This could help me in the future because it can be my main source of income or as a passive income. I feel like this is important because for a person like me or other people they might want to work outdoors and a work that is in-home would not really suit us. But we can adapt and make this a passive income job and find an area that we enjoy.
Today I learned that they are different types of writers and just like in other fields/areas you specialize in specific areas in which you practice at. For example you have something like a technical writer which is very different from a grant writer. Also each writer area has a higher pay and a lower pay than the other. Such as a technical director gets paid more than a grant writer.
Today I learned that being an editor can also be fun and profitable at the same time. I learned that there are different ways to get money while being a writer. Such as promoting ads and writing about brands which the cooperation's can pay you for that. You can also work for a magazine or a blog company in which the company pays you and the more experienced and good of a writer you are the more they will pay you.
Today I started a new journey in becoming a journalist. During these weeks at techie youth I leaned a lot about myself. One of those things that I learnt about myself was that I am a talented writer. I feel like I have a future at this department but I just need to learn the right tools in order to succeed. While I was scrolling through the different courses that were available at techie youth the writing one caught my eye. I will try to go down this path so that I can write a journal entry of my amazing time at techie youth.
Today I learned different types of way to earn money. I was reviewing back of the video editing videos and see the different types of ways to see how you can earn money and advertise it. Then I went back to the entrepreneurship videos and see if I can relate to the skills of entrepreneurship that I was taught to see if they correlated with the video editing skills that I was taught.
Today I learned how to edit different types of videos. For example I learnt the difference between editing a real estate video and editing a music video. Some needs to be more colorful and grab the audience attention more and some needs to be more classy and have a effect towards a certain audience.
Today I mainly learned how to get a job being a video editor and the steps that I need to take to become a full time video editor. First you have to brand and promote yourself so that other people can know about you so that they can hire you. For example you can do this by putting your work and showcasing your talent on platforms such as vimeo and YouTube so that potential clients can see your work and decide on if you are the right fit for them in terms of what you specialize in editing.
Today I learnt why color grading is so important and how to edit audios. The reason why color is so important is because it sets the tone in the video. For example a low tone can set a doomy mood. Also it can show the time period. This is very useful for editors because they can change the time period by just putting the color grade into a black and white tone. Also they can dictate seasons and a brighter color grade can set a tone of spring.
Today I learnt that they are different ways to edit and that you can edit based on a software and not necessarily on any device. For example you can edit on iMac but on iMac it won't have the same features if you edit on something that has windows or has a different program.
Today I did 2 quizzes in which I passes and I was proud of. First quiz I did was to learn about the keys of adobe freelancing and all of the shortcuts so that I can use it in a faster way instead of just looking for the keys. The second quiz that I passed in which I was very proud of was Freelancing because I completed that quiz on my first try with a 100 percent and also I felt like I learnt a lot from that lesson in the world of making money by editing.
Today while I was watching the videos I realized the reason for why editors choose to edit. That reason is the same reason for you to do what you love. For example editors love making videos come alive with edits as it fills them with joy and they just do it because it pays the bill. They do it because they love it with a passion and they do it for their own joy.
Today I learned why video editing is so important and why it is needed in order to make something look better. For example if you just put video out without any editing it will not look as good if you put a video out with editing. You will eventually lose your audience attention and they will gravitate more towards a video with background music and funny sound effects.
Today I learnt that there different types of editing apps that you can use to help you when you are editing. I learnt the positives and negatives of different types of apps and what do they specialize. For examples some apps/website specialize in color grading and some are better for cuts.
Today I continued on my journey to learn how to edit. I learned many different types of how to cut and when to use background music. I also learnt the importance of b roll and what it's main purpose is. I learnt that you can sometimes use b roll if you lose the audio and it will sync the people with the background.
Today I redid the quizzes that I did not do well on. I took my time and reviewed the videos to make sure that I did everything correctly. I completed and redid 4 quizzes in which I flipped the grade from insufficient to passing which I feel very proud on. I had trouble on 2 quizzes in which tomorrow I’m going to work harder on so that I can have a passing grade on those ares too.
Today I first re watched some videos on entrepreneurship and then I went to watch videos on video editing and for this vlog I want to talk about the similarities. For example the drive and the hunger to do what you love. In entrepreneurship we are taught that in order to thrive and succeed in the area of field then you will have to be willing to make sacrifices and to thrive off winning. I also see this in video editing because if you want to go big time and edit movies instead of little YouTube videos then you also have to be more hungry than your competitor's and your peers.
Today I decided to start the elective of video editing and I am learning a lot. The reason why I chose video editing is because I did not want to chose an elective that I knew about. I wanted to challenge myself instead of just being comfortable in an area that I am familiar with and would not have any struggles in completing the tasks and assignments.
Today I redid my assignments that needed revision so that I can get a higher score on them. I also watched videos on entrepreneurship so that I can have what it takes to be one. I also had to create some social media accounts and create a LinkedIn profile so that I can insert the link into the techie youth.
Today I went back to the perquisite units so that I can review and improve my quiz scores. I improved my getting paid quiz into a passing grade. I also learnt about the importance of knowing the industry before you rent an office or a working environment. I learnt about how you can lease a place instead of just buying it outright because it will save you more money and if your business does not go the way you expected it to go than you can just go back to where you started.
Today I learned what it takes to be and entrepreneur and that not only celebrities are entrepreneurs. For example you can be an entrepreneur by just having a business and starting your own company from scratch. I felt like these videos helped me a lot in understanding this criteria and area of field.
Today I learned that there are a lot of risks and decisions that you have to take when you are starting your business. Some of them are one's that can be very challenging and tough such as firing someone or deciding that working with your bestfriend is not good for business. Also I learned that when you get fired you do not have to sign the document that your bosses give you. The reason why is because they give you that document so that you will not be able to sue them. I learned a lot about the hiring field and the little tricks that companies use to take advantage of you.
Today I learnt that it takes a lot to start a business because of all the steps that you have to take. For example you have to do some courses in order to get a license in order to start your business. I also learnt the difference between LLC and how you can come up with exit plans. I also learnt that the person that you start your business with makes a big difference because at the end of each year one partner can buy the other person out if it is not working together.
Today I learned many new things that will help me a lot in the future. For example the main thing that I learned today is entrepreneurship because it showed how important it is and the steps that it takes. I watched a lot of videos on the skills that you need in order to succeed in this area of department. One of those skills is the importance of speaking and the effects that it can have which is a video that I enjoyed a lot because I learnt the most about.
Today I finished the first prerequisite unit and I learned a lot about the work environment and financials. I felt like this was very important for me to know first so that I can understand what I am getting myself into. Also I feel like in the future when I am going to do interviews I will feel like I can come back to this since it has a lot of helpful tips on how to do well on your interviews for the future.
