Version Control!

In addition to learning about web development, I learned about version control which is one of the subtopics in web development. Version control is a system that manages the files on your website. The main reason why it is so helpful is because of how it retains a history of changes. This is really helpful if you ever accidentally delete anything. Version control isn't something that is built in with your website, as it is a business. There are two dominators in the version control industry, Subversion (SVN) and GIT. If you are interested in making your own website, version control is an extremely crucial part. Also, it is a great way to see your progress and how far you've come from starting your website from scratch (if you decide to do that).

Web Developing!

Today at Techie Youth, I began learning about web development. I am writing about how I learned the basics of HTML. HTML is what puts the content on the page- what makes the website unique itself. However, it isn't just a flat template, it's a code set. If you're asking yourself how to build your own website, you should start with learning HTML and CSS. To add functionality to a website, you need to know Javascript, a coding language. I myself am interested in the coding field, so learning the basics in an organized way through Techie Youth is super helpful. Hopefully, by the end of this course, I am able to create a website!

About Analysts

Today at Techie Youth I began to learn about analysts. One type of analyst that I learned about is called a data analyst. A data analyst literally analyzes data. In detail- a data analyst looks at the numbers and translates them into simple terms to help businesses make good decisions. Data analysts not only have to have good math skills but good explaining skills in order to be understood. A bonus (in my opinion) for data analysts is that the job could be done from home. Data analysts may also work in teams but that can also be done at home too. Analyst's hours are the typical 9-5, but depending on the workload, it may vary too!

Intro to Providing Services: Transcriptionist

Today at Techie Youth, I started to learn about providing services. You can provide a service and get money in exchange by becoming a transcriptionist. A transcriptionist is someone who turns audio clips into written documents. This is a crucial role in helping deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Depending on your provider, you can work at home, or in person. You could even work on payroll instead of earning hourly. You may even learn new things when transcribing. While each provider is different, the average pay is about $16 an hour. Becoming a transcriptionist has some required traits such as being an active listener and typing at a fast pace.

About commodities!

Today at Techie Youth, I learned about commodities. A commodity is a basic good that can be switched or interchanged with other goods of the same type. Commodities are usually used as the input for the production of other goods/services. Commodities in the stock world can be bought and sold by investors directly in the cash market or derivatives. There are two crypts of commodities: hard commodities and soft commodities. Hard commodities are energy and metals. Soft commodities are agricultural goods. Commodities are encouraged in an attempt against inflation.

Stocks and Options

Today at Techie Youth, I learned about the difference between options and stocks. Starting with basics, stocks are pieces of a company that you can buy. These are called shares, and you are the shareholder. Most companies have a limit on how much you could buy. This is because they don’t want millions of people thinking they have a say in the business. Unless you have a large percentage of shares, you would need to attend important events and be very vocal. Though you can hold onto stocks forever, options have option contracts that tell you how long you can hold onto them for. If you buy a “call” option, you think the stock will increase in price. If you buy a “put” option, you think the stock will decrease in price.

About options!

While the basic definition of an option is a thing that is or may be chosen, the definition is a little more specific in terms of stocks. An options contract gives the buyer the choice to buy or sell depending on the type of contract. However, if the holder can decide against it as they don't need to buy or sell it. On the options contract, there is a price that is also known as the strike price. Furthermore, while the opportunity to make a profit with options seems appealing, investors should keep in mind the risks that can happen. Options are crucial for oil investors since it is the most direct way to invest in oil. American options also differ from European options. American options can be used before the expiration date, while European options can only be used on the expiration date or the exercise date.

Online trading: Forex

Today at Techie Youth I learned about Forex. Forex is abbreviated as Fx and means Foreign exchange market. Although there is no location, it is the largest trading market through banks and brokers. Forex exists to trade currency and get the equivalent value in the currency you seek. Anyone can trade Forex at any given time online. This is similar to going to another country and exchanging your currency for their currency. My family has done that before when we drove to Canada. Forex is the largest market because it is open to anyone since before it was only limited to government use and control. Also because forex is open 24/7 and hardly closes. Forex can also be traded in lots with values of 1,000, 10,000, and 100,000.

Cryptocurrency: blockchain

Today at Techie Youth, I learned about blockchain. A blockchain is a database that is shared among a computer network. The correlation that blockchain has with cryptocurrency is that it maintains and records the transactions, and guarantees security. The difference between a regular database and a blockchain is that the blockchain collects information in groups. The structure is also self-explanatory, as it is structured into a block and a chain. Database structures their data into tables. Something important to remember is that when new information goes through a blockchain, it gets a new 'block' until that 'block' fills up, then gets chained to the previously filled 'block'

Types of Orders

Today at Techie Youth, I started to learn about online trading, specifically types of orders. The most common orders are market orders, limit orders, and stop-loss orders. A market order is an order that will buy or sell security and is guaranteed to be executed but you are not given the price. The next type is a limit order. You can buy or sell security with a limit order at a given price. The stop-loss order is an order to buy or sell a stock. Once the stock reaches the price, it then becomes a market order. Lastly, a buy order is entered at a stop price above the current market price. This is typically used by investors to limit a loss or protect a past profit.

Profit Models: further

Today at Techie Youth, I learned more about profit models and want to talk further about profit models. When your business is established, recurring-income profit models, such as magazine subscriptions or websites that charge a monthly fee for access, are part of the most predictable revenue sources because most of the subscriber base should remain stable month to month. This estimate can also be used as equity, which can be used to borrow expansion capital for 'expanding customer acquisition', which would quicken your rate of growth. Revenue that is mentioned many times is the amount of income produced from a given outlet. All in all, profit models are very much needed to have a functioning company

Life of a Copywriter

Today at Techie Youth I learned about copywriters who try to get consumers to purchase their goods through any form of communication. It could be through social media, or through a slogan on the item itself. Most copywriters need to write sentences that are short and minimal, but still persuasive. This is because people don't want to have to read an essay on why they should buy your product. Copywriters writing copies shouldn't have to spend weeks and weeks on writing a copy because if the product was truly good, the copy would be simple enough for buyers to see the good in it. In copywriting, the features should be clear, and what buyers could do with your product as a result of it should be even clearer.

Self Publish vs Traditional Publish

Today at Techie Youth, I learned about the differences between self-publishing and traditional publishing. Based on the money you make alone if you publish traditionally, it seems like self-publishing is the way to go. Self-publishers make more money than those who traditionally publish in royalties. However, you aren't off the hook for expenses as opposed to if you publish traditionally. Your expenses will be covered by the publisher except for the cost of your website and email. If you want to be an award-winning author, it will be easier to be nominated through your publishers. One of the most crucial steps is to get a query letter written.

Managing your employees

Today at Techie Youth, I learned that when you are a boss, you don't and shouldn't be the stereotype of being strict and always working. You should be kind and build a relationship with your employees so that they don't hate you. I also learned that if you are going to fire someone, always make sure you have another manager or an HR in the room so that they can be a witness and account for everything that happened. You don't want the person you fired to act out of anger and do something that could ruin your life. However, you also shouldn't fire someone without at least hinting that that is in their future if they don't make changes.

Profit Models!

Today at Techie Youth, I learned that a profit model is a model that all companies have that leads them to make a profit. Since a cash profit is the goal of many, if not all companies, a profit model is crucial. Without one, the goal would be unclear and working towards nothing. There are many different types of profit models that depend on your line of work. Some include the production model, rent/leasing model, advertising model, and the commission model. Although all these profit models are different, the components remain the same. In short, the components are how the product will be produced, how the product is going to be advertised, and how the product will be delivered.

Things to keep in mind when doing your business

Today at Techie Youth, I learned about some things that you need to remember before you dive right into pursuing your business. If you have a product that doesn't solve a problem, it won't do well. If you have a product that solves a problem, you need to recognize all expenses in your life- not just the cost to make the product. For example, your rent, as well as promoting your brand, car expenses, and many more. You also can't keep this idea to yourself because what if you're the only one that likes it? You need to see what people think about it. Furthermore, entrepreneurs also have constant business ideas flowing and pursue them every year. If they fail, it's okay. People remember your successes over your failures.

Myths of being a leader

Today at Techie Youth, I learned about being a leader of your own business. While it is assumed that leaders of businesses are already pre-determined before you were born and have to have a lot of certain qualities, those are untrue. Being a leader you need to be a team player and work with your team to get the idea/point across. However, before becoming a leader, you don't need to be the smartest or the first at anything. It's a learned skill; you can't be born a good leader. You also don't need to be so strict and disciplined. You should have a good work ethic, but you should also be someone who your employees like working with.

Your own success (Entrepreneurship)

In Entrepreneurship, you need to be prepared for all aspects. While there are many successes, failures will also happen- however, you should not let that discourage your passion for being your own boss. It could be challenging to be your own boss due to gigging and other legal issues, but if you start off on the right foot, you can work your way up to a successful business. Additionally, success is whatever you want it to be. If you achieve your goals, that could be success to you. If you become famous and your business gains a lot of exposure, that could be success to you.

How to manage your emotions

In life, it is normal to feel negative emotions. However, something that is crucial to remember is that you control your feelings. While you or someone else may blame your emotions on someone else, it is also important to keep in mind that that isn't true. You need to be able to manage your emotions and respond appropriately. Something that you can do to make yourself feel better is to force yourself to smile for 10 seconds, and you may surprise yourself by feeling better (since only you can choose how you feel!). Additionally, often times when someone says something negative to you, it's to get a reaction so that they can feel superior- so the best thing is to not give them what they want.

Finances and budgeting!

Toady at Techie Youth, I learned about finances. Net income is how much you have made after expenses have been deducted. Gross income is the total amount that you have made before you have spent it. I also learned that you should make a budget for things that you spend your money on, and see what you can adjust and take out. Two ways that you can save money are negotiating your purchases, or just buying less overall. Having a credit card is useful in some situations, but sometimes brands will try to get you to use a credit card in an attempt to get you to spend more money. You should be careful and cautious of your spending so that you aren't spending more money than you make. You should also pay off your credit card bill monthly.

How to increase your connections (networking)

Today at Techie Youth, I learned that one of the best ways to increase your connections is to set up a Linkedin profile. Linkedin has users with many different credentials. If you enter information on your profile, you could network with these users for advice, or other things that may come in handy for your future. It may be more beneficial to start small and not rush into connecting with everyone. Build strong connections carefully instead of having a lot of small mutuals.

I also learned that on a resume, you should avoid the word "I" and use "You" instead. For example, instead of saying "I will give you..", say "You will get".

How to protect yourself from potential scams

Today I learned about how to protect yourself from potential scams. While finding a job opportunity that you may be excited to take part in, it is important to be aware of the harsh reality- making sure you aren't being scammed. Some red flags to look out for are seeing if they're making you pay before they give you the job and the salary cost for a job that should go to someone with experience or qualifications for this job field. Scams are always happening across the country, so It is important to look at all aspects before you dive in.

Online jobs and interviews!

Today I learned that you need to regulate your social media because it can affect the way potential employers view you. Some jobs don't want someone who will represent the company in an inappropriate way.

I also learned about different remote job opportunities. It is also more common to have interviews online than in person. Personally, I prefer online interviews because then I will be able to make a better impression in a familiar setting.

Banking and Checks!

Charles Schwab is an online banking company. They don't have a physical branch to withdraw or deposit money. You can access this through an ATM (for a fee), however, most times they will reimburse you for this fee.

When writing a check, you need to write the numeric and standard form of numbers so that no one can forge the amount on the check. A check also needs to be endorsed on the back for deposits at a bank. The endorsement needs to be in the form of a signature.

Additionally, business owners can also accept payments through many different platforms like PayPal and Square. This allows customers to be able to pay with their credit card.

My first day at Techie Youth - How to save if you want to travel the world and work remotely

Today was my first day at Techie Youth, so in addition to starting to complete the introduction unit, I did some exploring and surfed between many of what I needed to complete. One section that did stick in my mind was the possibility of traveling for a living. Sharing experiences online Is fun and a good keepsake. Additionally, if you take all the right steps and don't slack on them, you can upkeep the lifestyle of traveling while also making a living. While there are remote jobs that you can take with you internationally, you can also save by couchsurfing, booking earlier flights for a cheaper seat, and being on top of hotels (like always asking them questions if you have them in case they're trying to get you with extra fees). There are also travel apps that have deals and accommodations for your next vacation!
