Today at Techie Youth I worked on a writing campaign for Techie Youth. I wrote about what Techie Youth aims to do and who they aim to help. I also wrote about what I learned from this program about myself, and my goals. This program is different than other programs I participated in because it targets helping troubled youth.
Today at Techie Youth I learned more about entrepreneurship. I learned about sales , and how to get sales. The tips that I learned I can use to work in retail stores for commissions. The tips were very valuable.
Today at Techie Youth I went over some content in Intro and Life quality. I did this so I can refresh my memory on what I learned at the beginning of Techie Youth.
Today at Techie Youth I learned some things that will help me by financially aware in the future. One thing I learned about was necessities vs luxuries. Expenses that qualify as necessities are utilities, food, and shelter. Luxuries are expensive clothing, and electronics. Today I learned how to differentiate what I want vs what I need. I also learned about resale value. I could buy something and sell it for more than what I got it for. It's a smart way to purchase something, use it, and make back the money you spent.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about some office job skills. One of these were Gmail. I learned things about Gmail that I never knew , even though I’ve had it for about 3 years now. One thing I learned is that I can categorize emails. An interesting thing I learned is that I can snooze emails , send them away for a later time. What I learned will be very beneficial in the future because It will help me manage my Gmail in a way that’s easier for me.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about being a virtual assistant. It is a job that doesn't require extensive education. As a virtual assistant, some of your tasks would be to answer emails, schedule meetings and events, book travel, etc... You'd be responsible for managing the professional life of another person. The best part is that you can do this job from home. You can either get paid hourly or have a fixed weekly rate. Being a virtual assistant sounds like a good fit for me.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about writing an executive summary for a business. A executive summary is a business summary that includes their problem, solution, and target. In this summary the business explains how their product or service tends to the specific need of customers. It is important to write a summary even for a new business.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about how to make money with music. I learned about monetizations and copyrighting. Some people choose not to copyright because there’s a small chance of someone stealing their beat. I also learned about being paid on music streaming apps. Sometimes you can get paid by stream. What I learned today I will utilize in the future.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about jobs in the music business. These jobs really interested me because they left room for creativity. One job I learned about today is being a Music producer. As a music producer you listen to tracks , and suggest changes to lyrics but you also handle negotiations and contracts. Being a producer is business, but also fun because you get to add your own twist to music that you produce. Many famous artists started off as producers, so it’s a job that leaves room for growth. Techie Youth has sparked my interest in the music business.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about launching a start up business , exit strategies , and contingency plans. These things gave me valuable tips about opening my own startup and motivated me.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about different profit plans. Different companies use different profit plans to be successful. For example, Netflix and Hulu use a profit plan that includes subscription and depends on recurring customers. I also learned about a long tail profit model where hard to find items are sold in low volume.
Today at Techie Youth I learned a lot of valuable things. One of them being how to develop a business idea. Another being how to determine if this startup will be successful. The tips I learned I will share with friends and family to motivate them to have initiative.
Today at Techie Youth I learned how to master an interview. I learned about what not to say. One thing you shouldn't do is talk bad about your previous employer. What you should do is maintain a positive and professional attitude.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about the fundamentals of being an entrepreneur. I learned about speaking, being your own boss, and being a leader. What I learned will help me be a successful entrepreneur in the fututre.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about different remote jobs. I read most about being a mobile app developer. Being a mobile app developer takes a lot of skill. You need to know how to program languages. I also learned about ways to bring in clients as a freelance worker. One significant way is having a social media presence. This gave me the push I needed to start posting more on my social media and bring in my own clients.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about improving my life. I set some goals for different categories of my life that I will utilize in the future. One thing I learned today that I will apply to my life is data entry skills. I am more open to working at home because of Techie Youth, so I tested my skills. I learned how to type faster and new techniques that can help mw with data entry in the future.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about stress, and handling stress in professional and personal settings. It's okay to feel upset, but it's not ok to take it out on the people around us. Something valuable I learned is that no one can make you mad. They can do things that upset you, but we chose to lash out. Nobody can make us. I also learned about a calming mechanism to use when I feel myself getting angry. Looking in a camera and smiling for 10 seconds. I'm going to utilize this the next time I'm upset. I also learned about personal budgeting, and what resources we can use.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about why it is good to have a mentor. It is great for professional growth. A mentor can help you get new job opportunities. To find the right mentor you need to do research. Find someone who's in the position you want to be at and learn from them. To be a mentee you need to set up an agenda, meet consistently, and be open to positive feedback. That will help you get the most out of this professional relationship.
Today at Techie Youth I learned how to differentiate scams from real job opportunities. I learned some red flags when looking for a job. Some of these are , and having to make expenses at the job to work there, being offered a job without them seeing my resume or interviewing me. I learned that scammers prey on people who are actively looking for a job. I learned that even when I’m desperate for a job , I should always steer away from “too good to be true.”
Today at Techie Youth I learned about the benefits of working remotely and work he difference between a checking and savings account. Working remotely has many benefits such as health and flexibility. With working from home you get to choose your own hours and customize your workspace. You can work from your bedroom, kitchen, living room, or even abroad. I also learned that a checking account has little to no interest, but a savings has a low interest. I also learned how to write a check, it was useful information that I will use in the future.
