What I learned (8/12/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned about web design and graphic design. A web designer's responsibility is to construct the overall look and feel of a website, including creating the graphical images. Web designers are similar to graphic designers, but specialize in designing websites; this is a segment of graphic design that has far more technical-intricacies than exist in designing for most other mediums. Graphic designers on the other hand produce imagery for use in all types of media like online, magazines, brochures, fliers, posters, package-design and billboards. Designing professional graphics for print can have complex requirements, especially for package-design, but the technical formatting is usually fairly consistent between projects so this role is mostly of a creative nature. Web and graphic design requires an innate understanding and appreciation of aesthetics. If you possess these skills, then maybe web/graphic design is something for you.

What I learned (8/8/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned how to earn income by traveling to fun places and digital nomadism. One of the most common methods is to use social media to earn income from the sharing of your adventures and interesting stories. You can do this with youtube, instagram and more. Another way is Travel vlogging, it is a great way to earn income while traveling on a budget. A third way is through travel photography and literature, taking pictures and being able to capture your journeys is fun, creative and effective. A digital nomad is someone who earns an income online and lives by traveling from place to place. They typically work remotely from wherever they are, so as they travel the world they can continue working the same job and keep a steady income. There are some places that are considered digital nomad hubs, typically characterized by their low cost of living, for example Bali and Chiang Mai. There are local communities in many places where digital nomads go to meet each other, collaborate and learn from each other. Today I learned (8/5/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned how to build networks. Some tips to building a network is focusing on the right people, creating win/win situations, giving before you receive, becoming a connector, remembering to reconnect, using social networks. Once you have built up sufficient professional credentials and skills, you can also explore becoming an honorary speaker at conferences. Some conferences choose their speakers by a panel/team of their staff, and others have public "call for papers", sometimes abbreviated as C4P, where potential speakers submit their topic synopsis for consideration. Most conferences provide an honorarium package to each speaker; this package can (but does not always) include a stipend or payment, travel reimbursement and of course, one or more free conference passes.

What I learned (8/4/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned about working remote and all the tips that should be followed when working at home. When working at home, it is very important to limit distractions so that nothing can interfere with your work. Having a set schedule is very helpful with this since you can plan out when you want your lunch breaks to be. Taking breaks in general is super significant so you can avoid the problem of being over worked/stressed. Staying away from social media and your phone is another factor you must take on when working at home since it can easily take up your time without you even realizing it. To add on, when you are working remote, you will have zoom calls for meetings, but just because its online doesn't mean we have to be any less professional. Being attentive on meets are a must, even if you are not speaking you have to sow that you are actively listening to any information given to you. Taking turns and making sure you aren't talking over anyone is a form of consideration, the mute button helps very well with this.

What I learned (7/27/22)

Today in Techie Youth the first thing I learned about was Forex, also known as Foreign exchange. It is essentially trading money between foreign currencies with the aim of converting your funds to currencies with the strongest increases in value relative to other currencies as a means to increase monetary value. Forex exists so that large amounts of one currency can be exchanged for the equivalent value in another currency at the current market rate. Some of these trades occur because financial institutions, companies, or individuals have a business need to exchange one currency for another. The next thing that I learned what the trading game. The game allows for “free trade,” meaning any country can trade with another country, and any item and/or amount of product can be traded for another. Explain to students that they can creatively market their products or combine products to end up with something more desirable.

What I learned (7/26/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned about cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is a digital currency designed to work as a medium of exchange. It uses cryptography to secure and verify transactions, as well as to control the creation of new units of a particular digital currency. Cryptocurrencies do not exist as a stack of coins. Instead, they live only on the internet. They are like virtual tokens, similar to coins you would get in a video game. Cryptocurrency is formed through a process known as mining, which entails employing computer processing power to solve complex mathematical problems to earn coins. Users can also purchase the currencies from brokers, which they can then store and spend using encrypted wallets. A broker is a mediator in the relationship between traders and the market. There are also two categories of cryptocurrency, cryptocurrencies and tokens. Tokens are built on an existing blockchain but are considered to be programmable assets that enable the formulation and execution of unique smart contracts. While on the other hand, some cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin, have a finite number of coins that help to generate demand and reinforce their perceived worth.

What I learned (7/25/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned about stock trades and how to read stock charts. A stock trader is a person who attempts to profit from the purchase and sale of securities such as stock shares. Stock traders can be professionals trading on behalf of a financial company or individuals trading on behalf of themselves. Stock charts help you decide whether it's a good time to buy or sell stocks, but you have to know how to read them. When reading bar charts, look at the green and red vertical bars that wander across the main part of the graph. The top and bottom of each vertical bar represent the highest and lowest prices of the stock, shown on the right side of the graph, over that time interval. Each bar has two little twigs poking out, one to the left and one to the right. Some are near the top of the bar, some near the bottom, many are in between there's no discernable pattern.

What I learned (7/22/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned about how social media can help you earn income just by sharing your adventures and interesting stories, and also how to become a digital nomad. One of the common recommended steps and strategies that should be used to successfully make income from social media is being yourself. People prefer authenticity rather than a fake self image/representation, it is a very dangerous tactic to pretend to be someone else, this can cost the trust that your fans and viewer's have for you. Another common step is considering the type of audience you have. Being able to determine whether your viewer's are younger or older will help you produce the perfect type of content. Familiarity with your audience also makes it much easier to learn what those specific viewers enjoy the most. Last but not least, the final important step that I will be talking about is the method of patience. Do not expect to gather such a large following at the beginning of your journey, patience is key and if you don't have it, you will become discouraged and will quit easily. Now onto how to become a digital nomad. A digital nomad is a person who earns a living working online in various locations of their choosing. Some steps you should consider when becoming a digital nomad is, choosing a city with a digital nomad community, picking the right bank account and credit cards, deciding what to do with your stuff, choosing a location that aligns with your working hours, considering your technology requirements, getting travel insurance and joining co-living communities.

What I learned (7/21/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned about art scams and how to avoid them. Art scams are ways to exploit an artist who is yearning to succeed and may be convinced that a scammer is sincerely offering a useful service or purchase. As soon as you are asked to spend money, it is very important that you research very thoroughly to determine if you are being scammed. Possible scams that you may be exposed to are, people telling you that they are out of the country and need the art sent to somewhere bizarre like Belarus, terrible misspellings and word-wrapping formatting problems, and they will also firstly recommend paying via check or money order. These scams can come in forms like emails, text, online dating scams, and more. Some steps you can take to prevent any type of art scams are, dealing with people in your local area, not wiring funds to anyone that you do not know, being aware of fake cashier's checks and money orders, not providing anyone with your private information and being cautious when accepting any relay calls.

What I learned (7/19/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned all about selling art online. Selling art online may appear easy, but there are many important factors and steps that need to be taken into consideration before you actively sell your art. First thing I learned what the platforms that you can sell your art on, these are; Esty, Minted, Fine Art America, Redbubble, Society6 TurningArt, Storenvy and more. The second thing I learned is that having an art advisor, consultant or dealer is very important. They are the ones who will help you gain any type of popularity or recognition on your work. One of the ways in which art consultants add value to galleries is in their understanding of artistic trends and which artists are currently producing work that captures the current zeitgeist. While artist’s agents have a responsibility to promote the work of the artists on their books, art consultants are able to stretch beyond a small pool of represented artists to bring together creative content that is most relevant.

Data entry surrounds different job titles, but all roles typically involve inputting data into a company's system from written or audio files. On the other hand ad campaigns are a series of advertisement messages that share a single idea and theme which make up an integrated marketing communication. There is also ad campaign management which is a wide-ranging effort, involving several stages including planning, executing, tracking, and analyzing/optimizing a campaign.

What I learned (7/15/22)

Today in Techie Youth I learned about Technical writing, grant writing, and fundraising. Technical writing is writing or drafting technical communication used in technical and occupational fields, this includes computer hardware and software, architecture, engineering, chemistry, aeronautics, robotics, finance, medical, consumer electronics, biotechnology, and forestry. When it comes to technical writing, focusing on your niche and being empathetic are extremely important factors. Grant writing is the practice of completing an application process for a financial grant provided by an institution such as a government department, corporation, foundation, or trust. Such application processes are often referred to as either a grant proposal or a grant submission. With grant writing there is a grantmaker, a grant maker is a person or organization being asked to fund a project. Last but not least, fundraising is the process of seeking and gathering voluntary financial contributions by engaging individuals, businesses, charitable foundations, or governmental agencies. One of the most effective yet popular online methods of fundraising is crowdfunding. It helps with reaching a large population with a simple online platform.
